Work Based Learning (WBL) Program

The Work Based Learning Program (Career Internship) provides highly motivated students the opportunity to investigate careers, which they are interested in pursuing. The program relies on business, industry and government resources to provide mentors for the students in the program. Students will work closely with a career professional to obtain an understanding of that career and what it entails. 

Primary objective of this program is:

  • To provide an exploratory and investigate opportunity for seniors to gain knowledge and understanding of career paths they are interested in pursuing. The program will greatly improve their ability to make wise choices as they continue their education and pursue career goals. 

Secondary objectives of the program are:

  • To prepare to meet the expectations required to be successful in post-secondary education program, whether it is a college/university or a vocational/technical school
  • To provide skills and training for students to competitively market themselves to post-secondary educational institutions and even more importantly to employers
  • To gain insight and understanding of expectations required to be successful in the workplace.
  • To learn life skills critical to success in both work and personal lives
  • To enhance feelings of self-worth by concentrating on identified areas of strength
  • To nurture leadership potential and the student’s responsibility for themselves
  • To expand community participation in education
  • To provide students with the opportunity to meet professionals involved in a variety of careers
