Principal's Message

Lancer Families:

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!  We are excited for you to join us.  My name is Joey Crawford and I am proud to be the principal at Amherst County High School.  I am also happy to announce our administrative team for the upcoming school year:  Mr. Tom McBride, Mr. Jay Sales, and Mr. Segar Jordan will serve as our assistant principals and Ms. Itzel Nogueras will serve as our dean of students.  Mrs. Laura Casler is returning as our Head of Counseling and Mr. Robert Curd is our Athletic Director.  We are all here to support our students and their families in any way possible.  Throughout this year, we will be focusing on Lancer Pride!  We want all of our students to take pride in doing things the correct way and in making our community proud.

There are several upcoming events that we hope you will be able to attend.  On August 10th, we will have our Registration Night.  All students and their families are welcome to join us from 1:00 - 7:00 pm.  Please remember to register online BEFORE you arrive in order to avoid long lines.  You may register on our school division website at:  https://www.amherst.k12.va.us/cms/One.aspx?portalId=12380990&pageId=16330766 .

When you arrive at ACHS, please park in the back parking lot (by the gym) and enter the cafeteria.  You will be able to complete the registration process during this time if you were unable to do so previously.  Once the registration process is complete, you or your student will receive their class schedule and may proceed to meet their teachers in their classrooms.  Schedules will not be handed out until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 10th.  Electronic schedules will be made available beginning on Thursday, August 11th.  If you are in need of making a schedule change, please do not congregate outside of our counseling office on Registration Night.  We will have a Google Form for you to fill out, and our counselors will reach out to you to discuss the change.  School Counselors will be available on Registration Night to enroll new students.

Throughout the cafeteria, we will have various tables for your benefit.  We will be selling parking passes and accepting senior dues.  Our ACHS Booster Club and our PTO will be available during this time and will be recruiting parents and family members to volunteer for the upcoming school year.  In addition, we will have our representative from Jostens available to chat with seniors about caps and gowns, etc.  Our transportation department will also be available during this event to ensure that pickup and drop-off locations are correct.

On August 16th from 7:45 am-11:30 pm, we will be welcoming our Freshmen for Transition Day.  We will have transportation available for students to be picked up and dropped off.  Transition Day is only for 9th-grade students.  During this time, we will create a schedule for all 9th-grade students to spend time in their classrooms.  When students arrive, they should report to the Gym for a brief assembly before being released to their first-period class.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these dates, please contact our main office at 434-946-2898.

Lancer Pride!
