Mr. Joey Crawford began serving as the principal at Amherst County High School in July, 2022.  He began his career with Amherst County Public Schools in 2007 and has served in many different capacities in 15 years as an educator.   

Mr. Crawford began teaching in Amherst County Public Schools in 2007 and taught Social Studies at Amherst County High School.  He served as an assistant football coach and an assistant baseball coach at that time.  In 2011, Mr. Crawford was named the head baseball coach at Amherst County High School, where he remained until 2018.  During the summers, Mr. Crawford worked in the Maintenance Department for Amherst County Public Schools.  

Mr. Crawford's administrative experience began in 2018 as an assistant principal at Amherst County High School.  He served in that role until June of 2020 when he was named the principal at Temperance Elementary School.  In July of 2020, Mr. Crawford was also named the principal of the newly formed Secondary Amherst Remote Academy, where he served for the duration of the 2020-2021 school year.  During the 2021-2022 school year, Mr. Crawford also served as the Division Discipline Coordinator for Amherst County Public Schools.

Mr. Crawford earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia in 2007 where he was also a four-year player on the baseball team.  He completed his Masters in Educational Leadership at Lynchburg College in 2018.  Mr. Crawford is currently working toward his Doctorate Degree from the University of Lynchburg.  

Mr. Crawford is from Amherst, Virginia, and is a graduate of Amherst County High School.  Mr. Crawford currently resides in Madison Heights with his wife Megan and his two children, Jaxon and Addison.
