Amherst County High School opened in 1956–1957. The ACHS students were originally called the “Rebels” until 1960, when the school adopted the “Lancers” mascot. During the 1962-1963 school year, ACHS was consolidated with Madison Heights High School. And the school was integrated during the 1964–1965 school year. Since opening, 13 principals have served the students and families of Amherst County High School.
