Course Overview
This course is designed for advanced students who are capable of a more rigorous course. Students enrolled in this course are assumed to have mastery of the concepts in the Algebra I and Geometry curriculums. A thorough treatment of advanced algebraic concepts is provided through the study of functions, "families of functions," equations, inequalities, non-linear systems of equations, polynomials, rational expressions, complex numbers, sequences, and series. Emphasis is placed on data analysis, practical applications, and modeling throughout the course of study. Oral and written communication concerning the language of algebra, logic of procedures, and interpretation of results is also a focus in this class. The standards for this course provide the foundation for students to pursue a sequence of advanced mathematics, leading to AP Calculus. Students in this class use a graphing calculator for exploring functions graphically, statistical and data analysis. Students should be prepared to master most algebraic concepts without the aid of a calculator.
