Graduation Rehearsal and Car Guidelines

Hello Lancer Seniors and Families,

We are excited to be celebrating your commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 23rd. We want this to be a fun and memorable event, but we must do so in a safe and orderly way. During these uncertain times, safety has to be our top priority. Participants must adhere to the following guidelines regarding car decorations and parking for graduation to help us accomplish this goal.

Car decorations must be done in a positive manner that is either in school spirit (ACHS and/or the college or university you will be attending) or with an inspirational message.  You must refrain from anything political or anything that could be considered divisive.

Each senior will receive one parking spot for their own vehicle plus one guest car that will park in the junior lot.   For safety reasons, all people should be properly seated inside a vehicle (For example, people should not be in the bed of a truck, etc.).  No trailers or attachments to vehicles, limousines, or other long vehicles will be allowed due to the limited spots/space that is available.  All guest cars that park in the Junior Lot will be required to stay for the duration of the ceremony.  If you need special accommodations for your vehicle due to a disability please call ACHS and ask for Mr. Crawford or email him at tcrawford@amherst.k12.va.us

We will hold a rehearsal for graduation on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at 5:00 PM.  It is very important that all seniors attend the rehearsal to help the actual ceremony run as smoothly as possible. We anticipate rehearsal will last between 15-20 minutes for seniors and parent(s)/guardian(s) and you can arrive anytime between 5:00-8:00 PM. During rehearsal  seniors will:

  •  Locate their pre-assigned parking spot and lot from our administration (CLICK HERE to view the list of assigned spots). The numbers and lines will be painted in the teacher and bus lots the weekend before graduation rehearsal. Please contact Mr. Crawford at tcrawford@amherst.k12.va.us  if you have any questions.

    •  Seniors should have their parent/guardian plan on driving them so that they know what to do during the ceremony.  Your assigned spot can be found on our ACHS website on Monday, May 11, 2020.

  • Drive the route to the parking lot stage and practice getting out and back in their car.

  • Receive instructions and drive the parade route.

  • Receive any academic cords they may have earned for graduation

  • Receive a “Congratulations class of 2020”  yard sign donated by McBride Signs.

Administration will be available to answer any questions you may have.

If you need assistance in finding a vehicle to drive you through the ceremony, please contact Mr. White, Assistant Principal at ACHS.

The success of our graduation plan depends on your participation in rehearsal. With your help, we believe we will be able to finish our ceremony in approximately 2.5 hours.

Thank you!
