Item Pick-Up, Fundraiser, and Field Trips

Hello Lancer family,

I’m sure by now that you are all aware that public schools in Virginia have been closed for the remainder of the school year. While we understand how devastating this is for everyone, we trust our state leaders and understand why this decision was made. I am sure this leaves you and your families with many questions. I will attempt to address those in this email.

1. How can I pick up my child’s belongings?

  • **Change from the previous post:

Due to the new shelter in place order that Governor Northam announced Monday at 2:00 PM we are canceling all scheduled pick-up and drop-off activities at the school. We will continue with our scheduled pick up for today only, Tuesday 3/31 from 1:00-3:00 for those that used the google spreadsheet. Once we are cleared to do so we will work to reunite all students with their belongings. Also, after today please do not come to the school to drop off any uniforms, theater scripts, or fundraiser money until further notice. We are in uncharted territory and I really appreciate how flexible and understanding everyone has been.

If there are important must need items (eg. medicine, materials for job employment, etc.) please contact your child's administrator to set up a time to pick up.  Students: A-C Mr. McBride tmcbride@amherst.k12.va.us , Students D-J: Ms. Terry aterry@amherst.k12.va.us , Students K-Ro: Mr. Crawford tcrawford@amherst.k12.va.us , Students Ru-Z: Mr. White rwhite@amherst.k12.va.us . You can also call the school at 434-946-2898 but please know that sometimes there may not be anyone in the building.

2. What if I have fundraiser money that I haven’t been able to turn in?

  • Fundraiser money will be collected by coaches. Please contact coaches to turn in money.

 3. What will happen to the money that I have paid to the school for field trips?

  • Field trip money will be refunded.  Checks will be mailed to parents/guardians.

4. What’s going to happen with senior awards and graduation?

  • As of right now, we must follow the guidelines and directives of the state and federal government. We are proud of our seniors and their accomplishments.  If at all possible we will find a way to honor and recognize all that they have done. We will continue to keep you informed of any plans/changes.

In conclusion, please understand that there are limited staff members in the building. Those that are here at ACHS are working to get meals and instruction to students, sanitize the school and take care of the bulleted items above. I ask for your patience during this unprecedented time in history.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We will get through this together!
