Students are revewing skills to prep for the state licensure testing.

Senior Awards ceremony is Thurs, May 17 with a dessert reception at 5:45 pm.  Ceremony at 6:30pm

in the ACHS auditorium.

Senior slideshow and picnic on  Thurs,  May 24.

Reminder,  go to Liberty University for graduation practice on Friday morning at 9 am.

Seniors arrive for graduation at 6:30 pm,   Follow dress code instructions.

Nurse Aide Ceremony and celebration was held Wed, May 9th.  Each student has a copy and original

of the nurse aide certificate.  Students have updated resumes,  found a minimum of 3 potential

employers and practiced mock interview questions.


Intro students are doing Memorial Day word puzzles, clip art and finishing a movie about Australia.

Intro students have presented drug projects and are finishing 2 careers comparison rubric.

Tornado placement is an internior room,  under tables.  Thanks for cooperation.

Underclass outdoor activity on Thurs, May 24 starting at 1 pm.

I am not testing during SOL's.  

Thanks to all for contributions and assembly of  disaster hygiene kits.

Nurse Aide students have completed  clinical hours and  are practicing skils prior to state licensure testing.

We enjoyed extended 3 hour clinical blocks on the Day of Giving, Friday,  March 30.

Students left friendship rocks in the Fairmont gardes and took group  student photos.


Bloodmobile- 27 units collected.  86 units for this year,  Congratulations to Red Cord volunteers.

Red Cords for graduates-  require 8 hours or more volunteering,   3 donations and/or   5 recruits.



Classroom doors are locked  Please encourage being on time.

Nurse Aide students did  Projects on job readiness including looking up contact info for 3 employers,

updating resumes and practice interviews.

8 more ACHS days for seniors!


 All nursing students are doing a great job at clinicals,  feeding, bathing, making beds, vital signs and other helpful tasks.

They are already forming positive relationships with the individuals at Fairmont.

Red Cross may be making calls for donors for a Bloodmobile sponsored by Lynchburg area sponsors.


Juniors and Seniors may want to take or retake SATs or  ACT  for college.  Sign ups are online.

Reminder that local scholarship applications are available through the counseling department

and some have March deadlines.   Scholarship awards are announced in May Senior Awards night.






Flu shot proofs-Thanks.  All complete.



CVCC may require pre-entrance testing in Math and English.  

Thanks to Mrs. Liggon for being a guest speaker about radiology Associate degrees and clinical

experiences at  Lynchburg General.  Real life stories with x-ray images generated enthusiasm for learning.

 College applications: research application requirements such as GPA,  recommendations and deadlines.

Financial Aide forms begam  in October.  Seniors received Jostens cap and gown order forms in Sept.

Please review packets for ordering information.

Reminder, clinicals are Tues, Wed and Fridays.   Please encourage attendance.  Each student must

complete 40 hours of direct care in order to receive a certificate and be eligible to take the state test.



.  Red Cross Red Cords- Students must donate 3 times or recruit 5 donors.  Students also volunteer

8 hours.  Red Cross Cords will be presented at the nurse aide ceremony in May and worn at 

Graduation.  The next Red Cross Bloodmobile isAugust 2018, beginning at 8:30am-2:30pm.

Senior Dues of $30. 00 cover senior breakfasts.  The first was held Sept. 21. with

discussion of cap and gown graduation orders.   Mrs. Ann Reed is the Senior facultyl sponsor.


Plan ahead for  graduation  at Liberty University Vines Center on Friday, May 25.

Seniors have dress code instructions.  Please allow time for parking and walking.

If  handicap parking is needed, please  request in advance for instructions.




 Students  who have cleared clinical and background check screenings go to Fairmont 3 days per week.



Clinical days will be Tues, Wed and Friday.  Please schedule non-emergency appointments for

Mondays or Thursdays.


Nursing  students  need a watch with a second hand for vital signs practice and for each clinical day.

REminder to keep nails short with no artificial nails per Centra and Centers for Disease Control standards.


Centra requires all students to clear health and background checks prior to clinical.










To  Incoming Nurse Aides students,  reminder to get your PPD TB skin tests,  background checks

and immunization records updated  as soon as possible.  Centra must approve health status prior to clinical.  

Two sets of  maroon scrubs are recommended,  a watch with a second hand,  clinical shoes and

black ink pens are important for clinical.  Happy Shopping!

NA students are doing practice tests on   U-Tube video clips for skills.

Study the Green and White booklets for skills steps and essential sequencing.

Skills tests include 5 skills within 25 minutes.









 All students continue to use Thinking Maps with content to reinforce learning such as classification,

sequencing, comparing and contrasting.

Students are doing Thinking Maps, 1 per week on Fridays.   We have used clasification and sequencing maps.


Attendance is very important!   


 Nurse Aide applicants:  must have good grades, behavior and attendance  Please contact me for questions or concerns.  Students must have testing grades at B/80% or above. 

Introduction to Health and Medical Sciences must be completed prior to the clinical course. 

Background checks and health screenings need to be completed  as soon as possible.


Please remind students to review study guides prior to each quiz and test.

Rubrics of Project  at least 1 month in advance.

Parent contacts for late work, low quiz grades and /or displinary issues as needed.


Students not wearing appropriate clothing or shoes will be sent to ISD for that period.

Fairmont Crossing clinical days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Fairmont's phone is 946-2850.

Students must be on time to ride the bus to clinical.  No car drivers.  Late arrivals will go to ISD.

   Students make remediation flash cards for  previous quiz questions missed.  Encourage studying.






Reminder, no clinical if school is closed or 2 hours late.

Clinical make-up may include Thursdays meaning 4 days per week.  No clinical if flu restrictions in winter.



 Appointments for Blodmobile will be after Thanksgiving. 16 year olds must have parental consent form signed prior to making an apppointment.
