Make Up and Late Work:

Refer to student handbook

Homework will mostly consist of vocabulary work that we will be doing every week. These vocabulary

words will be on the SOL’s at the end of the year. It is vital that the student know the meaning of these words and have practice with them.

Please make sure the student has the following materials in class daily

  • Spiral Notebook

  • Pen/pencil

  • Highlighter

  • Stickynotes

  • Section in 3 ring binder/separate 3 ring binder

  • Notebook paper

There are four simple rules I expect for my classroom

  1. Treat others with respect

  2. Be prepared

  3. Be responsible

  4. Be ready to work

  1. Verbal Warning

  2. In school detention/parental contact

  3. Referral

“Parking Lot”:

The parking lot is a chance for students to give me feedback or to anonymously ask questions, voice

concerns, voice connections made with material, share what got them excited or interested in a topic. I encourage students to take full advantage of this!

Students will be required to write one paragraph (5-7 sentences) responses to various prompts ranging

from reactions to readings, SOL practice prompts, or thought provoking questions. These journals will fall

under the classwork category and will be important for the student’s grade.

Research paper and Debate:

Throughout the year the student will be responsible for researching and producing a paper based on that

research. We will also be conducting debates in the classroom as part of the SOL requirements.
